Wisconsin Delegation Sends Letter Urging Prompt Consideration of Flood Damage in Additional Counties

Members of the Wisconsin congressional delegation today sent a letter to the President (see below) calling for prompt consideration of the significant flood damage that has occurred in the seven additional Wisconsin counties for which Governor Doyle declared a state of emergency late last week. These are Dane, Grant, Green, Jefferson, Kenosha, Racine and Rock counties.

The letter expresses appreciation for the President's cooperation in ordering federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the counties of Crawford, La Crosse, Richland, Sauk and Vernon, and encourages timely consideration of Wisconsin's request for additional counties that have been affected by the devastating floods.

Dear Mr. President:

Over the past week, severe storms continued to saturate many communities in Wisconsin with record rainfall. These storms generated widespread flooding in the state and have resulted in the destruction of numerous power lines, roads and bridges. Flash flood watches continue in many areas of the state as forecasts predict more rain this week.

Over the weekend, Governor Jim Doyle declared a state of emergency in seven additional Wisconsin counties including Dane, Grant, Green, Jefferson, Kenosha, Racine and Rock. The State of Wisconsin has requested assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is continuing to conduct site visits and assess damages this week.

Mr. President, we appreciate your cooperation in ordering federal aid to supplement the state and local recovery efforts in the counties of Crawford, La Crosse, Richland, Sauk and Vernon. We now encourage your prompt consideration of Wisconsin's request for the additional counties affected by this devastating natural disaster. Thank you in advance for your efforts on behalf of the State of Wisconsin.
